A 100 gram serving of flax seed meal is made up of 41 grams of fat, 28 grams of fiber and 20 grams of protein The fat composition is broken down into 54% omega-3 fatty acids, 18% omega-9 fatty acids, 6% omega-6 fatty acids and 9% saturated fat. It is a good source of B vitamins (B1, B6, B3) as well as the dietary minerals thiamine, magnesium, potassium and phosphorous.

The shelf life of brown flaxseed meal is dependent on storage conditions and is highly variable. It should be stored under cool, dry conditions and in a humidity-controlled environment. Refrigeration is recommended. The industry standard for shelf life, when stored under optimum conditions, is 18 months from the date of manufacture.
