Our walnut halves and pieces are of the English variety grown in California which produces 99% of the total U.S. commerce of English walnuts. Walnuts are a nutrient dense food containing on average 15% protein, 65% fat, 14% carbohydrates and 7% fiber. They are also rich in the dietary mineral manganese, B vitamins and Omega 3's. Since 2016, the US FDA allows for products containing walnuts to state a Qualified Health Claim which reads "Supportive but not conclusive research shows that eating 1.5 ounces per day of walnuts, as part of a low saturated fat and low cholesterol diet and not resulting in increased caloric intake, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease." Our walnut halves and pieces are a combination of light, natural light and light amber walnut color. A tolerance of 15% by weight is provided for kernels darker than light amber.
These walnut halves and pieces also meet USDA standards and are pasteurized using Napasol vacuum dry steam technology. They can be eaten on their own, blended into a mix such as muesli or used as an ingredient in baked goods.
