A prune is a dried plum.  The type of prune depends on the variety of plum used. French prunes are the most popular variety grown in the U.S. Prunes are made up of approximately 64% carbohydrates (natural sugars), 31% water, 7% dietary fiber and 2% protein. They are a rich source of vitamin K, a moderate source of B vitamins and other dietary minerals including niacin and riboflavin. They can be enjoyed as a naturally sweet snack all on their own or used in cooking and baking to make both sweet and savory dishes.

The product shelf life is dependent on storage conditions and is highly variable.  Prunes should be stored under cool, dry conditions and in a humidity controlled environment.  The industry standard for shelf life, when stored under optimum conditions, is 24 months from date of manufacture
