Aunt Patty's Natural Sesame Tahini is made from ground hulled white sesame seeds and unrefined, cold pressed sesame oil. Also known as Ardeh, Tahini is a condiment commonly used in Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. It is used as a dip all on its own and as an ingredient to make hummus, baba ghanoush and halva (a sweet, dense Middle Eastern confection). It is also commonly used in Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Indian dishes.
Compared to other kinds of nut butter, tahini has higher levels of fiber and calcium and lower levels of sugar and saturated fats. It's also a good source of protein, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids. Because of this, it works well for vegetarian and vegan diets. With a smooth and creamy texture and a light, nutty flavor it's a wonderful ingredient to use when making other types of sauces and salad dressings.
