Also known as Corinthian Raisins (we call them fine corinthian raisins around here), Zante Currants are dried small, sweet seedless grapes from the plant cultivar Black Corinth. They are the oldest known type of raisin. Normally dark brown or black in color with a thin skin and sweet, intense flavor, they contain mostly carbohydrates in the form of natural sugar and dietary fiber. Zante Currants contain moderate amounts of B vitamins and minerals such as iron, manganese and potassium. Coated with a thin layer of sunflower oil to prevent clumping, they are most commonly used in baked goods such as bread, scones, muffins and cakes. They are also sometimes blended into dried fruit mixtures.
