The word Sucanat is a contraction from the words Sucre de canne naturel. This organic sugar is one of the most unrefined sugars that you can find on the market. Made from organic sugar cane specifically grown in Costa Rica, it is produced by simply crushing freshly cut organic sugar cane, extracting the juice, heating the juice in a vat and then reducing it to a rich, dark syrup.
Once it is completely reduced, it is cooled and dried to produce the granules. Nothing is added or taken out during this process. It retains the molasses content which provides for its deep brown color and distinct caramel-like flavor. It also retains trace amounts of iron, calcium, vitamin B6, potassium and chromium. It is especially delicious in baked goods, BBQ sauce and marinades. Substitute for brown or white sugar in any recipe.

Shelf life is indefinite when stored at ambient temperatures and 40%-70% relative humidity. Shipping at ambient temperatures and avoiding extreme fluctuations is ideal.
