Mainly used as an ingredient in soups and stews, pearled barley is whole grain barley that has been processed to remove its fibrous outer hull and polished to remove some or all the bran layer.
Pearled barley is the most common form of barley as it cooks faster and is less chewy than less processed forms of barley.
Nutritionally, it is similar to wheat with the same amount of calories, protein, vitamins and minerals.

Not Ready-To-Eat (RTE): Raw grains and the flour milled from grains are not RTE. This product is a raw ingredient and must be properly cooked, prior to being consumed.

The product shelf life of pearled barley is dependent on storage conditions and is highly variable. It should be stored under cool, dry conditions and in a humidity-controlled environment. The industry standard for shelf life, when stored under optimum conditions, is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
