Raw Fair Trade Demerara

Also known as turbinado sugar, demerara sugar is made from crystallized, partially evaporated cane juice.  It starts as fresh cut sugar cane which is squeezed to remove the juice.  The juice is then partially evaporated and spun in a large turbine until the large, sparkling, golden crystals are formed.  This spinning process removes most of the molasses content so that there is only a slight hint of molasses flavor left.  Demerara sugar is commonly used as a topping for cookies, muffins, crumbles, pies and Crème Brulee.  It also can be used in glazes for meat.  No chemicals, bone char or animal by-products are used to make or de-colorize this sugar so it is also ideal for vegan cooking.

Storage Recommendations

The shelf life of this product is indefinite when stored at ambient temperatures and at 40%-70% relative humidity.  Shipping at ambient temperatures and avoiding extreme fluctuations is ideal.
