Rotini is a type of corkscrew pasta having a three-veined spiral shape containing 5 to 7 twists per inch. In Italian, the word rotini means "small wheels". Medallion brand rotini pasta is made fine ground durum semolina (wheat) and is enriched with niacin, iron (ferrous sulfate), thiamin mononitrate (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), and folic acid. Each piece measures approximately 1.2" in length, .4" in diameter, and .04% thick.
The tight twists of rotini pasta help them retain the wide variety of sauces better than other types of pasta. They are commonly used to make pasta dishes and salads with Carbonara, pesto, and tomato-based sauces.
